Strong performances end the Eagles' regular season

HICKORY, N.C.- Carson-Newman track and field left the second day of the LR Last Chance Meet with first place finishes and season-best performances this afternoon, May 12.
"Overall, I'm so proud of how our athletes have responded all season," head track and field coach David Needs said. "We have faithful athletes who have a willingness to do what it takes. As a coaching staff, all we can ask is that the team brings the right attitude, and this group has brought it all season. We had a good day today. We didn't get any locks for national selections, but we continue to improve, and this group deserves some recognition for all they have accomplished this season".
The men's 4x100-meter relay team finished first this afternoon, May 12, with a final time of 41.02. Amine Kasmi, Shemar Patten, Lucas Besong, and Dawson Jones each ran a leg in the event.
Kasmi, Jones, and Patten went on to compete in the men's 100-meter dash prelims. Kasmi finished the race in fifth with a time of 10.65. Jones (10.82) and Patten (10.88) landed in sixth and seventh respectively. All three Eagles grabbed provisional qualifying marks for their performances.
"Sydney went in today and jumped the best she has all season," Needs said. "I can't say enough about her and all of the other athletes who continued to fight all season to be their very best".
Sydney McCarty won the women's long jump with a 5.96-meter leap.
"We are hopeful, and now we will wait for Tuesday to see who gets to attend nationals," Needs said. "As always, there is room to improve. However, we can definitely continue to build on great days like yesterday and today. I am so proud of this team".
