Blassingame, Davis provisionally qualify for nationals as Eagles start strong in Sewanee
SEWANEE, Tenn. - Carson-Newman’s men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their seasons at the Sewanee Tiger Indoor Invitational with multiple athletes placing in the finals in several events.

"I think we had some special performances today," head track and field coach David Needs said.
Sophomore Jessica Azor, a multi-event competitor, placed in the top 6 of each of the 5 events she competed in.
Junior Cassadine Blassingame and freshman TJ Davis tied for first in the men's long jump with marks of 7.05 meters. Each provisionally qualified for nationals with their results.. Davis also placed 2nd in the Men's Triple Jump.
"To have two athletes in back to back jumps qualify for nationals is very exciting," Needs said. "Especially when on is a true freshman."
In the men's shot put, junior Randall Freeman took first with a throw of 13.82 meters. Lucas Mathis followed close behind in second with a throw of 13.71 meters.
Freshman Tiana Mills earned second in the women's long jump, and fourth in the triple jump. Freshmen Jason Williams (55m Dash), and Aaron Seward (200 and 400m Dash) led the way in the men's sprint events, placing second in each of their respective events.
The Eagles travel to Appalachian State next week to continue their indoor season.
