Carson-Newman to add swimming as varsity sport in 2013
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The swimming pool inside the Maddox Student Activities Center will be a bit busier starting in 2013. Carson-Newman is adding men’s and women’s swimming to its roster of varsity sports; those teams will begin competition next year. “It’s natural,” Carson-Newman Athletic Director Allen Morgan said. “We’ve got a great venue. The pool is in place, the touchpads, scoreboards, seating area for fans; the physical plan is in place.

"Secondly and equally as important, there are several strong amateur area programs in the area."
The search for a head coach for the men's and women's teams begins immediately.
C-N President Randall O'Brien said adding the varsity sport will give even more students opportunities to be exposed to a world class education in Christ's light.
"We are particularly pleased to offer young student-athletes the opportunity to receive scholarship assistance in attending college," O'Brien said. "Young scholars who wish to receive a world-class education, and, at the same time, continue their competitive swimming on the intercollegiate level will find Carson-Newman an attractive option. We look forward to welcoming these young scholar-athletes to Carson-Newman and to cheering them on to great success."
C-N's swim teams will compete at the pool in the MSAC. Built in 1993, this 96,000 square-foot facility is filled with options for activities and interaction, including the indoor pool.
"Our objective is to become the premiere Division II school in the southeast United States," Morgan said. "This is an additional way that we can do it. I'm excited about the young men and women who will become part of making history as we begin the first swim team at Carson-Newman."
