Eagles ready for put weather delays in the past with weekend doubleheader

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- With wintery weather hopefully in the rearview mirror, the Carson-Newman women's tennis team is set to host the University of the Cumberlands and Mars Hill, the first South Atlantic Conference opponent of 2015, this weekend at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex.  

The Eagles (1-2) have been forced to shut down the past two weeks as hazardous weather has pushed back Carson-Newman's last five matches. This has also affected the Eagles' practice schedule as they tried to stay in tune over the extended layoff. 

"Due to weather, we have struggled to get in a lot of practice time," said coach Jean Love. "The same can probably be said for our opponents as well."

The University of the Cumberlands Patriots (1-2) will journey to Jefferson City for a 3 p.m. start time on Friday. The Patriots were picked fifth in the preseason polls for the NAIA Mid South Conference.  

SAC rival Mars Hill (3-5) will follow suit on Saturday to open up conference play at 1 p.m. The Lions will lean on sophomore Lucy Mclaurin, as the preseason All-SAC selection boasted a 9-10 record in her freshman campaign. 

Carson-Newman is looking to get back on the winning track as they have consistently given great effort and energy throughout the duration of this two match-losing skid. 

"We are looking at it (weather) as a non issue," said Love. "We are really looking forward to playing."
