Bio

2017: Appeared in all 11 games for the Eagles on the defensive line.  He caused chaos in opposing backfields to the tune of 33 tackles, eight for loss and a team-best four sacks.  His eight tackles for loss were the third most on the club.  He had his best day against Catawba when he tallied six tackles.  He had one of his four sacks against the Indians and collected the other three against Pikeville, Saint Augustine's and UNC Pembroke.  He was most frequently in the opponent's backfield against Wingate when he had three tackles for loss. 

2016: Did not appear in any games due to academic eligibility issues. 

2015: Appeared in eight games for the Eagles with 26 tackles, seven stops for loss and 5.5 sacks.  He also notched a pass break up and two quarterback hurries.  He delivered a hit on a Brevard quarterback that was featured on Fox Sports One and ESPN.  His seven tackles for loss ranked fourth on the team while his 5.5 sacks were second on the team and tied for third in the SAC.  He had two sacks against Tusculum, tied for the highest total by an Eagle this season.  After sitting out four weeks with an injury, he returend with a career high six stops against Brevard (10/10).  He had multiple stops for loss against both Tusculum and Newberry.  He also forced a fumble against Brevard. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Jaysen Cook-Calhoun joins  the Eagle football program after a high school career under coach Josh Niblett at Hoover High School.  The linebacker had 56 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and four sacks as a senior. Cook-Calhoun made the All-Over-The-Mountain team and the Alabama Sports Writers' All-State team as a senior. Cook-Calhoun helped maintain Hoover's status as a national powerhouse, helping the Buccaneers to a 2013 national title and Alabama state championships in 2013, 2014 and 2015. 

PERSONAL: He is the son of Voilanda Cook-Calhoun and Jason Cook.  His father played corner and safety at Auburn.  He selected Carson-Newman over UT-Chattanooga, Troy, Kennessaw State and Delta State.  Cook-Calhoun plans to major in architecture at C-N.
