2024-25: A five-year player for C-N, Butts has appeared in 84 career games for C-N. He is top 15 all-time in career blocks with 42. He has shot 79 percent from the field over the last two seasons for the Eagles, including a career-best 81 percent this season.

2023-24: Butts appeared in 12 games with one start in his fourth season on the banks of Mossy Creek.  He averaged 2.2 points and 1.8 boards after sitting out much of the first semester with an ankle injury.  He scored a season high eight points against UVA Wise (Jen. 18) when he took four shots from the field without missing.  He pulled in a career-high six boards against Lenoir-Rhyne (Jan. 13), including five on the offensive glass.  

2022-23: Butts made appearances in 18 games in his red-shirt sophomore season.  He averaged 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds per game on the season.  He scored a season-high four points on three occasions (Johnson (Nov. 28), at Limestone (Dec. 7) and Lincoln Memorial (Feb. 1)).  He had a season-high four boards against the Ralisplitters and at Belmont Abbey (Jan. 3).  He led C-N in blocks in three games. 

2021-22: Butts made his first career start against UVA Wise (1/5). The redshirt-freshman post appeared in 26 of the Eagles' games.  Butts averaged 2.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game on 45.3 percent shooting.  He topped out at nine points against Lenoir-Rhyne (12/1) and set a new career high for rebounds against Erskine (1/1) and Newberry (1/29) with five in each game.  Butts led the Eagles in blocks in four games. 

2020-21: After sitting out the first three games of the year due to injury, Butts came off the bench in 19 games while averaging 3.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per game.  Butts made an instant impact in his second career game, swatting four shots in 17 minutes at Anderson (1/9).  He produced his lone double-digit scoring effort against Catawba (2/6) with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.  He also had a season-best four boards against the Indians. 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Butts averaged nine points and seven rebounds a game while helping Langston Hughes to back-to-back state titles as a freshman and sophomore.   He earned all-region honors as both a junior and a senior.  In addition to basketball, Butts also competed for Langston Hughes track and field program. 

PERSONAL: The son of  Priscilla and Eric Butts.  He plans to study business administration at Carson-Newman.  In high school he was a member of both the A/B and Super Honor Roll.

Quintet of Eagles, men’s basketball program lauded by NABC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Carson-Newman's men's basketball program has been named a recipient of the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Team Academic Excellence Award and five Eagles have been named to the NABC Honors Court, the organization announced Monday.
