Bio

2023-23: Brenegan was injured for the early portions of the season, but turned it on in the back off of his redshirt-sophomore campaign.  The Greenville, S.C.-native scored in double-digits in a career-best seven consecutive games to close the regular season.  He averaged 8.3 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting from the field, 40.6 percent shooting from the three and 84.6 percent shooting from the stripe.  He had a career-best 23-point effort at Wingate on Feb. 18. Brenegan started the final six games of the season. As a starter, he averaged 16.83 points per game on a 49.2/48.3/85.7 slash line.  He averaged 2.5 made threes per game in that stretch.  He knocked down a career-best five threes against Wingate (Feb. 18) and had four rebounds on three occassions, at Belmont Abbey (Jan. 4), at Mars Hill (Feb. 8) and against Emory & Henry (Feb. 22).  He dished out multiple assists in all six games he started, including a season-high four at MHU, at Wingate and against E&H.  Overall, he had seven games where he scored in double figures.

2021-22: The younger Brenegan brother appeared in all 31 games for Carson-Newman making his first starts of his career. Brenegan entered the starting lineup against Erskine (1/1).  The three-point specialist averaged 5.2 points per game while canning 39.8 percent of his shots and 40.4 percent of his threes.  Brenegan made 42 triples on 104 attempts.  He made a three in a career-best eight straight games from Dec. 1 - Jan. 5.  The Wade Hampton product had six games where he buried three or more threes.  Brenegan reset his career high in a start at Anderson (1/24). he canned 6-of-9  threes en route to scoring 20 on the Trojans.  That was one of four double-digit scooring efforts on the year for Brenegan. He also topped 10 points against Lees-McRae (11/13), Erskine (1/1) and Limestone (2/19).  He had is first career five-rebound game against the Saints.  He handed out four assists, a new career high, on two occasions, at UVA Wise (12/8) and at home against Mars Hill (12/15).  

2020-21: Brenegan came off the bench in 20 games for Carson-Newman in his freshman season.  An efficient marksman, Brenegan knocked down 48.2 percent of his shots and a team-best 46.5 percent of his threes.  He averaged 4.3 points per game while scoring in double digits twice - a 16-point night  against Benedict (2/15) and a 10-point effort at Mars Hill (2/18).  He knocked down multiple threes in seven games, including four straight from Feb. 1 through Feb. 10.  He had a season-best four boards in a home game against Mars Hill (2/17).  He also dished out three assists that game, a feat that he matched at Lincoln Memorial (1/27).  

HIGH SCHOOL: A high school teammate of fellow commit Tyler Bowens at Wade Hampton, the duo helped the generals to a region title in 2020.  They also appeared in the state title game that year. Brenegan was a two-time all-conference player and two-time all-county player.  He earned all-state honors as a junior and senior. He scored more than 1,000 points in his high school career. 

PERSONAL: The son of Amy and John Brenegan, he plans to study biology at Carson-Newman.  Younger brother of Carson-Newman guard Luke Brenegan. His father played basketball at the University of South Dakota.  Brenegan finished his high school career at Wade Hampton with a 4.818 GPA.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman (11-11, 5-7 South Atlantic Conference) fell behind by its largest deficit of the season, but rallied to get within a pair of possessions before falling 86-78 at Catawba (15-5, 10-2 SAC) Saturday at Goodman Gym.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (11-8, 5-4 South Atlantic Conference) took a defensive battle from two of the top defensive teams in the South Atlantic Conference with a 60-53 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (8-9, 3-6 SAC) Saturday evening inside Holt Fieldhouse.

Despite an 11-2 scoring run in the final five and half minutes of the game, Carson-Newman (10-4) dropped its first road contest of the season, falling in overtime to Belmont Abbey, 72-64 Saturday evening inside the Wheeler Center.

EMORY, Va. – Carson-Newman (9-2, 4-0 South Atlantic Conference) held the SAC’s second-highest scoring offense 20 points below their average and staved off a late Emory & Henry (7-4, 1-3 SAC) rally to secure an 85-69 win over the Wasps Saturday afternoon at The King Center.
