Bio

2021-22:  Davis was Carson-Newman's leading scorer, with a 13.5 point per game average.  He's scored in double digits in 21 games this season, including five of the last six to close the year.  Davis has logged a quartet of 20 point games this season and has 14 for his career.  Davis tallied a 23-point night at Wingate (Jan. 27) for his top scoring effort on the year.  The conference's leader in steals, Davis is sixth in the country in total steals with 70 and 9th in steals per game with 2.62.  Davis is in the top five for steals in a single season at Carson-Newman. Davis' 70 steals are third for a single-season all-time at C-N.  Mike Morton (1971-72) is second with 79 steals. Davis has 171 steals for his career. He passed Ishmail Simmons for fourth on the all-time career steal chart at C-N with his five swipes against Coker.  It would take an extended tournament run for Davis to catch third place - Ish Sanders and his 183 steals.  Davis has 15 games this season with at least three steals.  He became Carson-Newman's 39th 1,000-point scorer in the SAC quarterfinals against Wingate with a 13-point night. Davis has 1,039 points in his C-N playing career and 1,293 in his collegiate basketball career.

Honors:

  • All-SAC Second Team
  • SAC All-Tournament Team

2020-21: Davis has re-wrote the record book in his senior season.  He entered rarefied air on Feb. 15 when he dropped 44 on Benedict. He tied Chris Jones and Mike Ogan for the third most points in a single game in school history. Davis scored 19 in the first half before tallying 25 after halftime. He was clutch in the final five minutes, going 8-for-8 at the charity stripe. He scored 15 points in the final 9:15 of the contest. He knocked down the second most free throws in a game that day when he went 18-of-19 from the charity stripe. He earned SAC and TSWA for that week and TSWA Player of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 25 as well. Davis averaged a team-best 13.0 points per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.  He knocked down 81-of-97 free throws to lead the Eagles at the charity stripe. Against Mars Hill on Feb. 18, Davis joined former All-American Kyle Gribble as the only C-N players with seven steals in a game.  A noted thief, Davis' 53 steals ranked sixth nationally and tops in the SAC. His 2.41 steals per game registered as the 11th most in the country.  He ranked second in C-N history in single season steals per game and 15th for steals in a season.  Davis led C-N in steals for 12  straight games to close the year. He has been Carson-Newman's scoring leader on five occasions with four, 20-point efforts this year.  He also has 12 double-digit scoring efforts. Davis had 10 games this year with at least three steals. He used his old man springs for his first career dunk against Wingate (1/23).

Honors:

  • All-SAC Honorable Mention
  • SAC Player of the Week (2/22)
  • TSWA Player of the Week (1/25, 2/22)

2019-20: Carson-Newman's leading scorer for 2019-20, Davis averaged 14.1 points to go along with 4.6 rebounds.  He dished out 67 assissts as well to rank third on the team.  Davis had an exceptional middle portion of the year.  From Dec. 18 - Jan. 11 Tennessee State Transfer Tripp Davis posted five consecutive 20+ point outings against Mars Hill, Catawba, LenoirRhyne and Queens. He’s the first player to achieve that since Charles Clark scored 20 or more in six straight games to close his junior year in 2017. Davis and Clark are the only players since the turn of the century to post five more more 20+ point games in consecutive fashion. Davis averaged 23.6 a game on his string while shooting 53 percent from the field and 50 percent from three.  Davis scored in double digits on 17 occasions on the year and had six games  with at least 20 on the season.  He topped out against Mars Hill (12/18) with a career-best 27.  Davis knocked down six threes in that game, also a career high.  He produced a pair of double-doubles with a 15-point, 15-rebound showing at Wingate (1/25) and an 18-point, 10-board day at No. 2 Lincoln Memorial (11/26).  Davis dished out five assists on four occasions against UVa-Wise (1/22), Catawba (1/4), Tennessee Wesleyan (11/18) and Shorter (11/13).

PRIOR TO CARSON-NEWMAN: Davis turned in a stellar junior season with Tennessee State, starting 22 games and appearing in all 30 contests the Tigers played in 2018-19.  He was TSU’s fifth-leading scorer, chipping in 7.8 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent shooting from long range.  Davis averaged 3.0 boards per game.  He produced 10 double-digit scoring games and a trio of 20-point efforts in his junior year.  Davis turned in a career-high 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including 6-of-8 from long range against Fisk.  He followed that up with a 20-point game against Cal State-Northridge. He wrapped up his junior year with his final 20-point game against UT-Martin.  In his first two seasons, he appeared in 23 games and averaged 0.9 points per game before his breakout junior year.

HIGH SCHOOL: In high school, Davis led Lighthouse Christian to a national championship in 2015 by winning the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) Tournament. He was named to the All-Midstate Second Team by The Tennessean as a senior. He is Lighthouse’s all-time leading scorer and the first person in school history with more than 2,000 career points.

PERSONAL: He is the son of Thomas and Vera Davis.  After finishing his undergrad degree at Carson-Newman and has now moved on to working on his master's of business administration.
