Bio

2021-22: In his redshirt-freshman season, Bowens appeared in 29 games for the Eagles.  He averaged 4.7 points and 3.3 boards per game.  Bowens shot 43.8 percent from the field. He turned in a pair of double-digit scoring efforts against Wingate (11/27) and at Lincoln Memorial (1/26).  He nearly produced a double-double against the Bulldogs with eight rebounds.  He matched that career high for rebounds against UVA Wise (12/8).

2020-21: Bowens made an instant impact on the floor for Carson-Newman in his freshman season. The first man off the bench in 19 of the Eagles' 22 games, Bowens averaged 7.1 points and 4.0 boards per game. He knocked down 54.7 percent of his shots and 57.1 percent of his free throws.  Bowens topped double-digits on eight occasions culminating with a season-high 13 in the Eagles' SAC-title win over Queens (3/7).  He turned in 10 games with at least five rebounds. His most productive game on the glass came in his first career contest against Coker (11/21) when he pulled down seven boards, a total he matched against Wingate (1/23). He dished out four assists against Anderson (2/3). Bowens led Carson-Newman in rebounding in three gamess and blocks twice.

HIGH SCHOOL: A high school teammate of fellow commit Nick Brenegan at Wade Hampton, the duo helped the generals to a region title in 2020.  They also appeared in the state title game that year.  Bowens also won a pair of region titles at Greenville Tech Charter as a freshman and sophomore.  Bowens was named the region's player of the year on his way to earning 5A all-state honors as a senior.  He was a North/South All-Star game selection, Hart County All-Tournament Team member and the winner of the county's dunk contest at the PAA showcase.   Bowens averaged 17 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists on 57 percent shooting as a senior.  He scored 1,000 points in his high school career.

PERSONAL: The son of Ross and Becky Bowens, Tyler plans to study education at Carson-Newman.  His father played basketball collegiately at Voorhees College.
