2019 (Senior): In the record books, Valentine finished his career with 92 appearances and 19 wins to hold the program record for career appearances, a mark that is the high-water mark among active Division II players. His eight wins in 2019 were good for sixth on the single-season list. A second-team All-SAC selection, the hurler became the 27th pitcher in the history of the program to earn a spot on an all-conference team. His sophomore and junior campaigns rank seventh and sixth on the program's appearances list 26 and 27 respectively. Moving to the starting rotation for the first time in his career, the right-hander put together a brilliant campaign going 8-3 on the mound with a 3.64 ERA in 74 2/3 innings. His eight victories were good for third in the league and among the top 20 in the country while his ERA was top 10 among starters. He passed the program mark for career outings with his start on April 5 against ninth-ranked Newberry passing the mark of 88 previously held by Ryan Fillers (2010-13). He went 19-5 during that stretch with 155 strikeouts in 177 1/3 stanzas on the bump. Piece together February and April of his senior season and he logged 48 2/3 innings over 10 outings punching out 44 with a 2.03 ERA. That period includes the best outing of career going eight innings of one-run baseball at Queens on April 13 fanning 12. With a 3.92 grade-point average in business, the Knoxville, Tenn. native had the fifth-highest GPA of the 13 players on the district 3 ledger consisting of teams from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas. Eight players were from the SAC earning a slot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
2018 (Junior): Will enter his senior season 13 games shy of setting the school’s all-time record for games by a pitcher held by Ryan Fillers (88) from 2010-13… His 27 outings in 2018 was one game behind the program record for a season and good for sixth-most… Struck out 40 and walked 10 in 43 1/3 innings going 6-1 with a save… 18 of his outings he did not allow an earned run… Won five games over a 12-games stretch from Feb. 18 to March 19… Went 2-0 allowing just one earned run on six hits and a walk while striking out nine batters over 6 1/3 frames to earn SAC and NCBWA Region Pitcher of the Week… Became the first Eagle reliever to win the honor from the league since Carson Bryant did so on April 7, 2015… Tossed 4 2/3 innings of relief with a career-high six strikeouts in a shutout effort at Newberry on Feb. 23.
2017 (Sophomore): Made a team-high 26 appearances in 2017 to pull into a four-way tie for sixth on the program’s games tossed in a singular year list…Was 3-0 on the mound with 27 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings of work…His wins came against Virginia-Wise on Feb. 10, Northwood on Feb. 19 and Lenoir-Rhyne on March 31…Fanned a career-high four batters versus UVA-Wise on Feb. 10…Worked a career-long 4 2/3 innings at Catawba on Feb. 25.
2016 (Freshman): Led the team with 23 appearances going 2-1 with a 5.33 ERA with two saves and 23 K’s in 27 innings…Notched 15 scoreless outings…Earned the victory versus Northwood (Mich.) on Feb. 19 going 2.2 flawless innings with two strikeouts…Picked up saves on Feb. 20 against Northwood on Feb. 20 and against McKendree on Feb 27….Earned his second win on April 8 at Anderson (S.C.)
