Carson-Newman Gets No. 3 Seed For 2010 Food Lion SAC Women's Basketball Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. – No. 20 Carson-Newman has earned the third seed for the upcoming 2010 Food Lion SAC Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Lady Eagles finished the 2009-10 regular season with a 22-5 record and an 11-5 mark in league play.

C-N will take on Wingate (7-9 SAC, 14-13) Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m., in a rematch of Saturday’s regular season finale, which the Lady Eagles won by a 76-65 score. This time around, Carson-Newman will be the home team.

Lenoir-Rhyne, the defending Food Lion SAC Tournament champion, is the top seed for the 2010 tournament, which begins Wednesday.

The Bears (13-3 SAC, 20-6 overall) will face eighth-seed Brevard (3-13 SAC, 9-18) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Brevard captured the final tournament spot with a win over Catawba on Saturday.

Lenoir-Rhyne won the conference title for the second year in a row and third time in school history.

Newberry is the second seed. Newberry (12-4 SAC, 19-7) will face seventh-seed Lincoln Memorial (6-10 SAC, 8-18) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. That matchup is a rematch of Saturday’s regular-season finale, which Newberry won 82-74.

Tusculum College earned the fourth seed. The Pioneers (10-6 SAC, 17-9) will host fifth-seed Catawba College (8-8, 15-12) on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

Quarterfinal winners advance to the tournament semifinals, which will be held at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, N.C. on Saturday, with games at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday’s women’s championship will be at 4 p.m.

Tickets for quarterfinal games are $6 for adults, $3 for children, students and college students with ID. Tickets for semifinal and championship rounds are $10 for adults and $5 for children, students and college students with ID.

The men’s and women’s winners of the tournament will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Division II playoffs.
