Carson-Newman Womens Basketball To Host Kids Day Sunday In Season Opener Against Anderson
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman
College Women’s Basketball Team has announced that all
children kindergarten through eighth grade will be admitted free to
Sunday’s season opener against Anderson (S.C.) University at
2:00 p.m. All adults (high school and older) will receive one
dollar off the regular price of admission with the presentation of
a church bulletin dated Nov. 15.
General admission is $8 while reserved chair-back seating is
$12.
“Our ladies are ready to show what they are capable of
doing,” said Head Coach Dean Walsh.
“They have been through a lot in our three exhibition
games over the past 10 days, and I think we all are ready to face
(NCAA) Division II competition.”
Anderson, a 2009 NCAA Tournament Participant, is picked third in
the Conference Carolinas preseason poll this season. The Trojans
will become a member of the South Atlantic Conference in the
2010-11 season.
The Lady Eagles also received votes in both NCAA Division II
preseason polls. C-N was listed as a team to watch in the
Women’s Division II Bulletin and was one of four SAC schools
with votes in the WBCA USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II
Coaches’ poll. Lenoir-Rhyne was ranked No. 20 in the country
by the WBCA. Ten of C-N’s 27 regular season contests are
against opponents that are receiving votes in the national
poll.
Carson-Newman played what could best be described as a gauntlet of
an exhibition season as it faced three NCAA Division I ranked in
the Top 25 in nine days. The Lady Eagles played No. 24 Middle
Tennessee State (Nov. 2), No. 8 Tennessee (Nov. 5) and No. 5 North
Carolina (Nov. 10) this season.
“We have high expectations for this season and we want
the community to be involved with what we’re
doing,” continued Walsh. “If you want to see
an up-tempo style of basketball with a lot of pressure this season,
then Carson-Newman will fit that bill.”
