Carson-Newman Womens Basketball Downs Converse, 95-59, Friday At Holt Fieldhouse
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman
College Women’s Basketball Team (3-0) built a 10-point
halftime lead and pulled away after the break to defeat Converse
College (0-2), 95-59, Friday evening at Holt Fieldhouse. The Lady
Eagles forced 44 turnovers in the victory, their third straight
game causing over 35 miscues.
After the break, C-N pushed its lead to 20 with a 13-3 run over
the first 5:49 of the second half. The Lady Eagles had a 13-0 run
later in the half to go up by 39 at the 4:38 mark, their largest
lead of the contest.
Converse outscored Carson-Newman 11-8 of the final 3:20 of the
contest to close the final margin to 36 at 95-59.
Senior guard Ashley Kyle (Jefferson City, Tenn.)
led the Lady Eagles offensively with 18 points while senior forward
Shari Buford (Hampton, Ga.) had 13 points 11
rebounds and three blocks.
Freshman guard Candis Clear (Memphis, Tenn.) had
a career-high 13 points while sophomore guard Megan
Hunter (Ashland City, Tenn.) led C-N with four assists and
four steals and added six points.
Sophomore forward Zoriah Williams (Calera, Ala.)
and freshman forward Courdne Miles (Burlington,
N.C.) each chipped in 12 points each for Carson-Newman.
Senior Ashley Arff (Fox Lake, Ill.) tallied a game-high 22 points
and six rebounds while Morgan Sacharski (Sussex, Wis.) added 13
points as well.
Carson-Newman will complete the Lady Eagle Shootout tomorrow
evening when it takes on King (Tenn.) College at 7:00 p.m., at Holt
Fieldhouse.
