Carson-Newman Women's Basketball Named In 2009-10 D-II Bulletin
BEAVERTON, Ore. - The Carson-Newman College Women's Basketball
Team is listed as a "Team to Watch" in the October 2009 edition of
the Women's D-II Bulletin.
The Lady Eagles will face three teams ranked in the Top 25 this
season in No. 16 Clayton State (Dec. 12), No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne (Jan.
23, Feb. 10) and No. 25 Columbus State (Nov. 28).
"Being listed as a team to watch shows that we have a tough
schedule this season," said Head Coach Dean Walsh. "In addition to
the three ranked schools, we have to play USC Aiken, Georgia
College and Augusta State, teams that could easily be on this
list."
Michigan Tech, an Elite Eight team from a year ago, is the
preseason No. 1 pick as the Huskies return five starters from a
27-7 team. Minnesota State-Mankato, the 2009 NCAA Champion, is
ranked No. 12 in the preseason poll.
Fellow Division II Southeast Region school and member of the
Conference Carolinas, Barton, is also listed as a "Team to Watch"
this season.
"We also have a tough schedule in the South Atlantic Conference
ahead of us," Walsh said. "We play strong teams in order to prepare
us for March and the NCAA Tournament."
Carson-Newman will open the 2009-10 season in exhibition against
Middle Tennessee State on Monday, Nov. 2 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., at
7:00 p.m. CT.
