Etowah, N.C. - The Carson-Newman Eagles fired a 298 (+10) to finish in third place after the first day of action at the Aramark Collegiate Invitational being played at Etowah Valley Country Club in Etowah, N.C.
South Atlantic Conference foe and host institution Brevard College is in first after setting the pace with a 291 (+3). Barton College is in second at 294 (+6).
The Eagles lead four other South Atlantic Conference schools. Wingate University is the closest of the four, sitting in fourth, three strokes behind C-N.
Junior Brad Robinson (Johnson City, Tenn.) is in a tie for eighth after opening with a 73 (+1). He first a 35 on the front nine, but closed with a 38 on the back to slip out of the top three spots.
Freshman Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) sits a stroke behind Robinson after shooting a 74 (+2). He also struggled on the back after a front-nine 34. Junior Cory Hinchey (Abingdon, Va.) also had a similar round, firing 36-39 to card a 75 (+3).
Sophomore Blake Howard (Johnson City, Tenn.) posted a 76 (+4) for the fourth Eagles score.
The final round begins Tuesday morning. Etowah Valley Country Clubwill serve as the host course for next week's South Atlantic Conference Championships.
