Eagles One Stroke Back at Johnny Palmer Invitational
Feb. 23, 2009
NEW LONDON, N.C. - The Carson-Newman men's golf team is in second place after Monday's first round at the Johnny Palmer Invitational, one stroke back of host Pfeiffer University.
The Eagles combined to fire a 318 (+30) on the par-72, Old State North Course in New London, N.C.
"The course won today," Eagle head coach John Minor said after Monday's round. "It was brutally cold and windy. We had three guys play well, but will need everyone to be on tomorrow. This is a tough, tough golf course."
Junior Brad Robinson (Johnson City, Tenn.) took his usual spot at the top of the Eagles' scores, carding a 2-over 74.
Freshman Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) finished at 6-over, firing a 78, while junior Cory Hinchey (Abingdon, Va.) was a stroke back at 79.
Sophomore Adam Holt (Liverpool, England) finished with an 87 to card the fourth score in the C-N total.
Carson-Newman is schedule to tee off in Tuesday's final round at 10:30 a.m.
