July 21, 2009
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Carson-Newman baseball team will face another challenging schedule in 2010, including three games against NCAA Southeast Regional participants, head coach Tom Griffin announced Tuesday.
The Eagles, which went 24-21 overall and 7-14 in South Atlantic Conference play in 2009, will open the season the year against Peach Belt Conference foe Augusta State with a three-game series beginning Feb. 5 in Augusta, Ga.
C-N will be road tested early as eight out of its first nine games are away, including single games against Paine (Feb. 7) and Pfeiffer (Feb. 17) and a three-game set against Limestone (Feb. 12-14).
King College will visit the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex on Feb. 10 for the Eagles home opener.
The Eagles begin conference play at home against Lincoln Memorial with a three-game series beginning on Feb. 19. C-N will also host conference series against Newberry (Feb. 26-27), Lenoir-Rhyne (March 19-20) and Mars Hill (April 2-3).
C-N will take on the first of three NCAA Southeast Regional participants on March 3 with a doubleheader against defending Conference Carolinas champion Belmont Abbey in Gastonia, N.C. The Crusaders, which split with C-N in 2009, went 40-26 last season and advanced to the Final Four of the Division II College World Series.
The Eagles travel to Greeneville, Tenn., on March 12-13 for a three-game series against longtime rival and 2009 SAC Tournament runner-up Tusculum. The Pioneers compiled a 36-18 record last season and advanced to the Southeast Regionals.
C-N closes out regular season play on the road on April 16-17 with a three-game set against defending SAC champion Catawba. The Indians went 36-18 in 2009 and received a berth to the Southeast Regionals.
