Eagle Bullpen Leads Way in Win at King, 6-5
April 14, 2009
Junior Ryan Hendrickson (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) fired two shutout innings to pick up the win (WP, 3-3), and junior Chase Boruff (Knoxville, Tenn.) closed the door with 2.2 scoreless innings of work to pick up the save.
Hendrickson came on with two outs in the fourth to pitch out of a jam. He struck out three on the day. Boruff also struck out three in slamming the door.
Wynn gave the Eagles an early 3-0 lead with his second inning blast over the left field wall, scoring Mills Rogers (Simpsonville, S.C.), who had doubled, and Corey Lamson (Gray, Tenn.), who had walked, earlier in the inning.
King would get the three runs back in the bottom of the inning to knot the game.
C-N answered by adding three more in the third inning to push its lead to 6-3, giving its bullpen all the runs they would need.
Junior Derek Long (Jefferson City, Tenn.) came through with an RBI single in the inning, and Rogers followed with a two-run single to provide the Eagle offense.
Wynn finished the day with three hits, while Rogers and Long each had two.
Carson-Newman returns to action on Saturday at home against Wingate. First pitch of the South Atlantic Conference doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
