2009 Eagle Baseball Season Recap

The Carson-Newman Eagles finished their 2009 campaign 24-21 overall and 7-14 in South Atlantic Conference play.
C-N opened the year ranked as high as No. 34 in pre season polls, and climbed as high as No. 12 nationally by the middle of February on the strength of sweep of nationally-ranked Northern Kentucky in Jefferson City.
Following the sweep of the Norse, the Eagles failed to win a weekend conference series until taking three straight from Brevard College, including a Sunday win over the Tornadoes at Smokies Park.
Sophomore Evan Patterson led the team in batting average (.397) and stolen bases (21), while junior Mills Rogers was the statistical leader in runs scored, hits, doubles and RBIs.
Senior Corbin Ariail led the pitching staff with four wins and five saves, while junior Derek Long was named second team All-SAC at first base.
Rogers tied the record for hit by pitch in a season with 13. He also and broke the career record for HBPs with 30. Ariail broke the appearances record for a career with 84.
