Carson-Newman track runs well at Milligan Relays

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Carson-Newman women's and men's track teams had strong showings in the Milligan Relays at the Liberty Bell Complex in Johnson City, Tenn. late last week.
Senior Aubrey Morris (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished first in the 3000-meter run by setting a meet and school record with a time of 10:41.03. Morris' time broke Jennifer Sauceman's school record from March 31, 2001 and Heather Atkins' (ETSU) meet record of 10:42.69, which was set in 2007.
Chelsie Woods (Bristol, Va.) placed second in the long jump with an attempt of 15 feet, six inches.
The Lady Eagles' 4 x 100 meter relay team of Katie LeMarr (Morristown, Tenn.), Charlita Russell (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Markia Johnson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Woods finished third with a mark of 52.51.
Gwen Simpson (Bristol, Va.), Jen Wiley (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.), Cara Hawkins (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Catelyn Dake (Knoxville, Tenn.) grabbed third place in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 4:32.04.
Dake captured fourth place in both the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run with times of 1:02.25 and 2:35.71, while Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) finished fifth in the shot put with an attempt of 32 feet, 10.75 inches.
In the men's meet, junior Antonio Gomez (Brewton, Ala.) finished second in the long jump (21 feet, 10.5 inches) and fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.11), while Chris Patton (Johnson City, Tenn.) placed fourth in the long jump (21 feet, 3.75 inches) and fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.46).
Senior Otis Ballard (Miami, Fla.) secured third place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.32.
In the 200 meter dash, Justin Long (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished third by turning in a time of 23.69.
The Eagles' 4 x 100 meter relay team of Cary Steward (Marshallville, N.C.), Mitch Russell (Jefferson City, Tenn.), Gomez and Patton claimed third place with a time of 45.09.
Both teams return to action on April 4 in the Mountain Laurel Relays in Sewanee, Tenn.
