Three Lady Eagles set school records at Sewanee Mountain Laurel Invitational
SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Three Carson-Newman women's track athletes broke school records on Saturday as the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles won at the Sewanee Mountain Laurel Invitational.

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Three Carson-Newman women's track athletes broke school records on Saturday as the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles won at the Sewanee Mountain Laurel Invitational.
Senior Aubrey Morris (Chattanooga, Tenn.) bested her own record in the 5000 meter run, which was set on April 12, 2008, to claim first place. Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) finished first in the shot put, improving on the school record she set on April 19, 2008. In the 300 meter steeple chase, Cara Hawkins (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) bested Tiffany Winchell's school mark set on April 19, 2008 to win the event.
Other individual winners for the women's team were: Markia Johnson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) in the 100 meter dash, Catelyn Dake (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the 200 meter dash and 800 meter run, Jen Wiley (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) in the 400 meter dash and Fleck in the javelin.
The Lady Eagles 4 x 100 meter relay team of Brittany Sealey (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Charlita Russell (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Chelsie Woods (Bristol, Va.) and Johnson grabbed first place, while the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Kellan Clay (Jefferson City, Tenn.), Hawkins, Wiley and Dake also claimed first place.
Russell also finished second in the 200 meter dash and third in the 100 meter dash. Wiley placed third in the 200 meter dash. Clay (400 meter dash), Hawkins (800 meter run), Woods (long jump and high jump) and Gwen Simpson (Bristol, Va.) all placed second in their respective events, while Torrie Branch (Crossville, Tenn.) grabbed third place in the shot put.
On the men's side, senior Chris Patton (Johnson City, Tenn.) was the lone Eagle winner as he claimed the top spot in the long jump. Patton also finished second in the 110 meter hurdles.
Junior Ricky Harris (Byron, Ga.) captured second place in the 100 meter dash, followed by Mitch Russell (New Market, Tenn.) in third place. Justin Long (Knoxville, Tenn.) grabbed second place in the 200 meter dash.
The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Ricky Harris (Morrow, Ga.), Otis Ballard (Miami, Fla.), Long and Doug Belk (Valdosta, Ga.) turned in a second place finish.
The team will travel to Williamsburg, Ky., on Saturday for the University of the Cumberlands Invitational.
