Eagles score two second half goals in shutout of Wingate, 2-0
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman goalie Mikey Alley (Kingsport, Tenn.) picked up his second South Atlantic Conference shutout and the Eagles scores twice in the first 20 minutes of the second half to beat visiting Wingate, 2-0, on Saturday evening at McCown Field.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 4-8 overall and 3-4 in SAC play. Wingate fall to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Alley picks up his second shutout of the season, saving six shots in the win.
Carson-Newman broke a scoreless tie in the 48th minute when Matt Craine (Morristown, Tenn.) scored his second goal of the season. Craine one-timed home a cross from Tyson Adkinson (Franklin, Tenn.) to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.
Senior Robbie Hill (Middlesborough, England) gave the Eagles a two-goal cushion 15 minutes later putting home a cross from Taylor Jolley (Morristown, Tenn.) to make it 2-0 Eagles in the 63rd minute.
The score was Hill's team-high eighth score of the season.
Carson-Newman outshot the Bulldogs, 24-9 in the win.
Wingate got 12 saves from keeper Peter Trask. Joshua Jokic led the Bulldogs with four shots, while Gui Lima added two.
Carson-Newman returns to action on Wednesday at Mars Hill at 7 p.m.
