Lady Eagles 13th in Final D-II Poll
Dec. 11, 2008
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles soccer team finished its 2008 season ranked 13th in the final NSCAA/adidas® Division II Poll, released earlier this week.
The Lady Eagles finished the year 16-5-1, claiming both the South Atlantic Conference regular season and SAC Tournament titles. It marked the second time in three seasons C-N had won both.
The Lady Eagles overall record came against what could be the nation's toughest schedule. C-N lost to No. 5 Columbus State twice, including a 1-0 loss in the NCAA Tournament. It also lost at national semifinalist, No. 3 Metro St. (Colo.) in September, as well as falling to No. 14 Regis Univ. (Colo.) on the same trip.
Coach Phil McNamara's squad also beat nationally-ranked UNC-Pembroke (No. 22) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 2-1, as well as dropping then-nationally ranked Catawba in the final of the SAC Tournament.
As if the NCAA slate wasn't enough, the Lady Eagles also dropped a regular season match with Lee University, who would go on to win the NAIA National Title.
C-N is the only SAC team ranked in the final poll.
