Six Eagles Earn All-SAC Honors
Nov. 7, 2008
ROCK HILL, SC - The Carson-Newman Eagles landed six players on the All-South Atlantic Conference soccer teams, league officials announced Thursday.
C-N (11-4-2), SAC regular season co-champions, had three players named to the All-Conference team. Forward Omar Cooke (Roanoke, Va.), defender Thomas Ostvold (Stavanger, Norway) and goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) were named to the first team, while forward Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) , midfielder Everardo Flores (Silver Spring, Md.) and defender Matthew Finlay (Liverpool, Eng.) were named to the second team.
Cooke is the Eagles' third leading scorer with four goals on the season, but came up big in the SAC title-clinching win over Newberry with two goals. Hill, who plays opposite Cooke, was named to the second team for compiling 11 goals as a freshman,
All-American Thomas Ostvold took his usual spot on the first team at defender, along with Moore in the net. The two combined, along with Finlay, on an Eagles defense that entered the week ranked in the top 15 nationally in goals allowed.
Carson-Newman will await word this weekend on whether or not it will be extended an NCAA Tournament bid. C-N lost Tuesday night in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament to Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-1.
