Bio
In seven seasons, Philip McNamara has taken Carson-Newman Lady
Eagle soccer to new heights.
McNamara led the Lady Eagles to South Atlantic Conference regular
season and tournament titles in 2008 and a trip to the Sweet 16 of
the NCAA Division II tournament, earning him his third SAC Coach of
the Year award. C-N finished the year with a 16-6-1 record,
including a 7-1 mark in conference play. He has compiled a 109-31-6
record at Mossy Creek, led C-N to six postseason appearances and
coached five All-Americans.
In 2006, McNamara earned his second SAC Coach of the Year honor
after leading the Lady Eagles to an 18-2 record and SAC regular
season and tournament titles.
In 2003, the Lady Eagles won their first South Atlantic Conference
championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Eagles
finished the season ranked in the Top 25 and produced their first
All-American in school history as Claire Ramsdale was selected for
the honor.
The 2004 season brought even more accolades to the Lady Eagle
program. The Lady Eagles went to the NCAA Final Four in Wichita
Falls, Texas, where they ended their season in a 2-1 loss to
Adelphi. Coach McNamara was named Southeast Region Coach of the
Year for the second consecutive season.
The 2005 season saw the Lady Eagles return to the Final Four after
posting a 17-5 record and defeating SAC regular season champion
Catawba and SAC Tournament champion Tusculum in the NCAA
Tournament.
Prior to arriving at C-N, McNamara produced a 17-12 women's record
in just two short seasons at Virginia Intermont. He led that team
to the conference and regional championships and was named
Conference and Regional Coach of the Year by his peers. McNamara
spent the 2001 season as head coach of both the men and the women's
programs. The men finished the season 18th in the nation and a
7-9-1 record. He was an assistant coach for both the men's and
women's programs at King College.
McNamara has three European coaching licenses and has served as a
youth coach for the Irish Football Association (IFA) in Belfast,
Northern Ireland.
