JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles basketball team will honor breast cancer survivors and benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund with “Pink Night” and “Play 4Kay Night” as the lady Eagles host Mars Hill at Holt Fieldhouse on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game, and pink Kay Yow Foundation t-shirts will be available for sale at the game with all proceed benefitting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Breast cancer survivors are encouraged to attend and will be honored during the game.

The Lady Eagles led by eight at halftime, only to see the Bears open the second half on a 15-2 run and outscore Carson-Newman 40-26 in the second half for the six-point victory.

Junior Shyra Clark (Cleveland, Tenn.) scored a career-high 21 points and collected her third double-double of the season with 14 rebounds. Also with a double-double for the Lady Eagles was senior Courdne Miles (Burlington, N.C.) with her season-high 14 points and 10 rebounds, and she has now scored double-digit points in four of Carson-Newman’s last five games.

Carson-Newman was led in scoring by senior Nikki James (Cookeville, Tenn.) with her 22 points, and she scored what proved to be the winning layup with 18 seconds left in the game to deliver the Lady Eagles a 62-61 lead, which would be the final score.

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (3-1) women’s basketball team used a 16-3 run to end the game to deliver the Lady Eagles their third straight victory, a 57-51 win over the Georgia College Bobcats (1-2) in the 2012 Lady Saints Tip-Off Classic at Memorial Hall Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Carson-Newman was led in scoring for the second straight game by freshman Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) who scored 21 points and hit key free throws down the stretch for the Lady Eagles in the comeback victory.

Burstrom and Brown power Lady Eagles to 78-66 Win
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (2-1) women’s basketball team earned its second straight victory with a 78-66 win over the North Georgia Lady Saints (0-1) in the 2012 Lady Saints Tip-Off Classic at Memorial Hall Gymnasium on Friday evening. For the second straight contest, junior Shyra Brown (Cleveland, Tenn.) collected a double-double while freshman Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) led Carson-Newman with a season-high 23 points in the first road win of the year for the Lady Eagles.

Lady Eagles travel to Gold City
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (1-1) women’s basketball team will hit the road for the second straight weekend, participating in the 2012 Lady Saints Tip-Off Classic in Dahlonega, Ga. The Lady Eagles will first face the host North Georgia Lady Saints on Friday evening at 6 p.m., and will finish out their weekend against the Georgia College Bobcats (0-0) on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside Memorial Hall Gymnasium.

Lady Eagles soar over Flying Fleet 85-45
HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (1-1) women’s basketball team picked up their first victory of the season with an 85-45 win over the Erskine Flying Fleet (0-2) in the SAC-Conference Carolinas Challenge at the Tex Turner Arena on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday afternoon. Junior Chante’ Markus (Hummelstown, Pa.) led four Lady Eagles in double-digit scoring with 15 points, keyed by a 10 point performance off the bench in the first half.

Lady Eagles edged by Cobras 59-56 in season opener
HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (0-1) women’s basketball team fell in their season opener 59-56 to the Coker Cobras (1-0) in the SAC-Conference Carolinas Challenge at Tex Turner Arena on the Lincoln Memorial University campus on Friday evening. Carson-Newman and Coker were tied at 56 with 25 seconds remaining before Coker’s Hailey Yohn hit a three-pointer with twenty seconds remaining in the contest to give the Cobras a 59-56 lead, which would be the final score.

Lady Eagles begin 2012-13 regular season in Harrogate
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles basketball team will begin their regular season with a trip to Harrogate, Tenn., for the SAC-Conference Carolinas Challenge, facing Coker on Nov. 9 and Erskine on Nov. 10 at the Tex Turner Arena on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University. The Lady Eagles dropped their three exhibition contests, falling to North Carolina, Tennessee, and East Tennessee State on the road this past week.

Lady Eagles Fall to Lady Bucs 82-52
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles basketball team finished out their exhibition schedule with an 82-52 loss to the East Tennessee State Lady Buccaneers in front of 2,570 fans at the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Eagles were sparked in the second half by the three-point shooting of freshman Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) who led Carson-Newman with 14 points as she hit four three-pointers and three in the second half as the Lady Eagles posted their top point total in the three exhibitions.

Lady Eagles Travel to Knoxville
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles basketball team will continue their exhibition schedule by facing the no. 16 Tennessee Lady Volunteers at Thompson-Boling Arena on Thursday night at 7 p.m. This is the ninth consecutive year the Lady Eagles and Lady Vols have met, in a series that dates back to 1920. The Lady Vols have scored at least 100 points in seven of the last eight meetings, and Carson-Newman’s last win against Tennessee was a 36-16 victory in Knoxville on Feb. 9, 1925.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles basketball team fell to the no. 16 Tennessee Lady Volunteers 104-44 in an exhibition matchup at Thompson-Boling Arena on Thursday night. Carson-Newman saw junior guard Chante’ Markus (Hummelstown, Pa.) and sophomore guard Lashawnda Peacher (Springfield, Tenn.) score in double figures, with Markus leading the way with her 12 points in the second exhibition game of the year for the Lady Eagles.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels 106-29 in the first exhibition game of the season at Carmichael Arena on Sunday afternoon. Carson-Newman was led in scoring by junior Shyra Brown (Cleveland, Tenn.) with her nine points and six rebounds in her first game in a Lady Eagle uniform after transferring from Austin Peay.

Lady Eagles Picked Seventh in Preseason SAC Poll
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles basketball team was tabbed for a seventh place finish in the South Atlantic League by the league’s coaches in the annual preseason poll. The Lady Eagles received 39 votes, while Wingate picked up 78 votes to lead the poll, including seven votes for first place.

Mincey Announces 2012-13 Women's Hoops Schedule
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women’s basketball head coach Mike Mincey announced the 2012-13 schedule for the Lady Eagles on Wednesday. Carson-Newman will face four teams that saw postseason action a year ago, and will begin the season with exhibitions against three NCAA Division I opponents including North Carolina, Tennessee, and East Tennessee State.

Gilmore Joins Lady Eagles
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles have added junior guard Takyah Gilmore to the 2012-13 women’s basketball signing class.
Gilmore joins the Lady Eagles from Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn., where she played during her freshman and sophomore seasons.
“From the first time we brought her on campus and worked her out, her athleticism is the one thing that really shined,” said Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey. “She’s a really nice kid and wants to work hard, and her athleticism is one of the main reasons why we wanted to bring her on board.”

Roger Hoover named Assistant Director of Athletic Communications
Jefferson City, Tenn. – Carson-Newman athletic director Allen Morgan has hired Roger Hoover to be the school’s Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and the play-by-play voice of the Lady Eagles basketball team.
