Former Eagle Koeneman signs with Arizona Diamondbacks
PHOENIX, Az. – Former Carson-Newman All-American first baseman Kyle Koeneman (Seymour, Tenn.) has signed a free agent contract to play for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Koeneman will travel to Arizona this weekend to participate in the Diamondbacks’ Rookie Mini-Camp before being assigned to a minor league affiliate.

Eagles' Koeneman Named First Team ABCA All-American
MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Carson-Newman first baseman Kyle Koeneman (Seymour, Tenn.) has been named to the American Baseball Coaches' Association Division II All-America First Team, officials announced Wednesday.
Koeneman was selected by the coaches in the infielder/utility position after starting 48 games for the Eagles at first base and pitcher. He also made one start at catcher, a 6-1 win at West Georgia in April.

Eagles’ Long, Faithful named to SAC All-Tournament Team
FOREST CITY, N.C. – Carson-Newman leftfielder Zach Long and pitcher Evan Faithful have been named to the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Baseball All-Tournament Team.
The pair led the Eagles to a 2-2 record and a third-place finish, which included a pair of wins over nationally-ranked Catawba.

Eagles ride Koeneman’s 20th home run to 6-1 win at West Georgia
CARROLLTON, Ga. – Carson-Newman’s Kyle Koeneman hit a three-run home run in the top of the first and pitcher Evan Faithful held the Wolves to a lone run over eight innings as the Eagles beat West Georgia, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles move to 27-25 with the win and wrap up their season this weekend with a three-game series against Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga.

Wingate breaks away late to eliminate Eagles in SAC Tourney
FOREST CITY, N.C.—A grand slam by Jacob Karr broke open a tight game and the Bulldogs poured it on in the late innings to earn a 17-2 victory over Carson-Newman and advance to the championship round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship.
Karr’s grand slam in the top of the eighth turned a two-run Wingate lead into an 8-2 cushion. Karr’s grand slam was one of his two hits on the night. Thomas Spitz slammed two homers and drove in five runs for the Bulldogs. Wingate hit five home runs on the night. The Bulldogs advance to the championship round to face Tusculum at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Carson-Newman is eliminated from the tournament.

Koeneman, Eagles advance with win over Catawba, 7-5
FOREST CITY, N.C.— Carson-Newman led by as many as six runs, but had to stave off a late rally by Catawba to earn a 7-5 victory in the third round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship.
Carson-Newman led 7-1 through six innings, but Catawba rallied for four runs to keep the outcome in doubt until the end. Carson-Newman was led by SAC Player of the Year Kyle Koeneman with two hits, including a three-run homer. Chris Dula had two hits and two RBI for Catawba. Carson-Newman faces Wingate tonight, with the winner advancing to tomorrow’s championship round. Catawba is eliminated from the tournament.

Wingate hands Eagles first loss in SAC Tournament, 6-3
Forest City, N.C.----The fourth-seeded Wingate University Bulldogs got a solid start from sophomore right-hander Olen Little (Charlotte, N.C.), while redshirt junior first baseman Brian Yeung (Raleigh, N.C.) blasted a three-run homer as Wingate prevailed 6-3 over Carson-Newman on day two of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Tournament. The Bulldogs improve to 30-21 overall, and will take on top-seeded Tusculum College Saturday at 12 p.m. The Eagles fall to 25-24, and will take on Catawba Saturday at 3:45 p.m.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman’s third baseman Lance Rorex hit his first two career home runs as an Eagle, including a walk-off on the first pitch of the seventh inning in Game 2, to lead the Eagles to a South Atlantic Conference sweep of visiting Newberry on Saturday at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex. JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Three Newberry pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts and Kevin Rufus hit a leadoff home run as Newberry beat Carson-Newman on Senior Day, 5-1, at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
Newberry improves to 19-25 and 12-13 in SAC play, while the Eagles fall to 22-23 overall and 11-14 in SAC play.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Carson-Newman’s Evan Faithful struck out eight for his first career complete game as the Eagles beat King, 5-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the KC Baseball Complex.

Eagles drop doubleheader to LMU, 6-1 and 5-4
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday to visiting South Atlantic Conference rival Lincoln Memorial. In the opening game LMU starter Brad Pressley threw a complete game in a 6-1 Railsplitter win. In the second a last-inning Eagles rally fell just short, with the Eagles losing 5-4 at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

Koeneman, Eagles rally for 8-6 win at Belmont Abbey
BELMONT, N.C. – Carson-Newman’s Kyle Koeneman hit two late-inning home runs and came on in the ninth to pick up his third save as the Eagles beat Belmont Abbey, 8-6, on Tuesday afternoon at Abbey Yard.
The win evens the Carson-Newman record to 20-20, while the Abbey drops to 25-15.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Three Carson-Newman freshmen hit their first career home runs and Kyle Koeneman hit his 13th of the season as the Eagles pounded on visiting Pfeiffer, 21-8, on Wednesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
C-N’s 21 runs scored is the most in two seasons since a 21-8 win over Lenoir-Rhyne in March of 2010. The Eagles move back to .500 with the win, while Pfeiffer falls to 17-15.

Late runs lift Wingate past Carson-Newman, 10-5
Jefferson City, Tenn.----The Wingate University Bulldogs used a five-run seventh inning to finish off the weekend sweep at Carson-Newman College, winning 10-5 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs win their eighth straight overall, while notching their second straight weekend sweep. Wingate has now won 10 of its last 12 league games, improving to 22-14 overall and 10-8 in the SAC, sitting alone in third place in the league standings. Carson-Newman falls to 17-18 overall and 9-9 in the conference.

Eagles' Koeneman named SAC Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman first baseman Kyle Koeneman has been named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Koeneman hit .438 as the Eagles went 4-1 last week. The senior hit three home runs – including a game-winning two-run shot against North Georgia in the ninth inning and a game-tying blast in the ninth inning of a game versus Mars Hill that C-N went on to win in 11 innings.

Carson-Newman’s Thigpen Named SAC Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman pitcher Robby Thigpen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Thigpen fired a complete-game in his only appearance for Carson-Newman last week, earning a win over Brevard. The right-hander gave up just three runs in the outing, striking out seven and walking none.

Carson-Newman names Blake Herring pitching coach
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman baseball coach Tom Griffin announced the addition of Blake Herring to the Eagles’ coaching staff on Tuesday.
Herring will serve as C-N’s pitching coach. He replaces Brad Schrock, who is pursuing his teaching certificate in secondary education.
