Eagles Sign Four to National Letter of Intent

JEFFERSON CITY, TN-Carson Newman head baseball coach Tom Griffin announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent.  Current high school seniors Evan Jurjevic, Trayce Rogers, Brandon Timmerman will join junior college transfer Lance Rorex for the 2010-2011 season.

Evan Jurjevic-LaPorte, IN- LaPorte HS-Coach Griffin- "Evan is a very good athlete who has played several positions in high school.  Good size player who could help us in infield or outfield depending on need for next year."  Coach Scott Upp, LaPorte HS- "Evan is one of the hardest workers we have in our program.  Evan is a leader on and off the field.  He will definitely be an asset to Carson Newman in regards to more than just being a baseball player"

Trayce Rogers- Simpsonville, SC-Hillcrest HS-Coach Griffin- " Trayce is a solid all around baseball player.  He has great instincts for the game and is a very competitive kid.  His brother has been a 4 year starter for us and he knows very well how our program operates and what the expectations are on and off the field.  Having played for former Eagle player Dru Mahony, he will be well schooled in the fundamentals".  Coach Dru Mahony, Hillcrest HS-"Trayce is a solid baseball player with ability to play all the infield positions.  He battled injuries last year, so I expect a big year from him.  As a former Eagle player, I am honored to have Trayce going to CN"

Brandon Timmerman-Seymour, TN-Seymour HS- Coach Griffin- "Brandon played in our fall league and we were very impressed with abilities to pitch and how he handled himself on the field.  He throws mid 80's with some sink.  He did not throw much in the spring due to injury, but his upside on the mound is very exciting."  Coach Scott Norman, Seymour HS-"Brandon was hurt last year but we expect him to be our #1 this spring.  Has a bright future on the mound.  Plays third for us also, so he is a good athlete who has good mound presence."

Lance Rorex-Cleveland, TN-Cleveland State CC- Coach Griffin- "Lance is a high energy player who will fit in our system very well.  He is capable of coming in and playing 2B or 3B.  We also believe he could play in the OF.  Very good athlete who I know will come in and help us right away".  Mike Policastro, Cleveland State CC- "Lance is a high energy guy who will fit into Coach Griffin's system very well.  Very hard worker who has tremendous potential"
