Stand, Guerrerio make All-SAC second team doubles in women's tennis

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman doubles duo of Stefy Stand (Ecuador) and Patricia Guerrerio (Portugal) finds itself on the preseason All-SAC doubles second team.

Stefy Stand (Ecuador) ended her 2012 season with a record of 4-4 overall and 4-2 in the SAC singles. She performed in 10 doubles matches last season, finishing 5-5 for the season and 3-3 in the SAC. Playing alongside her were teammates Megan Wilson (Maryville, Tenn.) (5-11, 2-6) and Tiffany Delias (Morristown, Tenn.) (8-6, 4-4).

"In the singles and doubles line ups, Stand will be backed up by junior Katie Brown (Douglasville, GA), sophomore Jen Ott (Knoxville, TN) and three freshman Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal), and Brooke Sanderson (Evans, GA)," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said.

Carson-Newman finished last season 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the SAC. The Eagles are tied for eighth with Brevard College in the preseason poll, putting them ahead of Lenoir-Rhyne who finished in 10th in the 2012 SAC standings.

The 2013 preseason poll was released Friday along with the All-SAC First and Second team lineups.

Love believes the SAC preseason polls for the women as well as the men (the Eagles were picked to finish eighth as well) are primarily based off of last season's performance.

"Without knowing about the newcomers that will arrive this January for each school, I think the preseason polls are fairly accurate," Love said.

The Lady Eagles will return for the 2013 season looking to improve upon their eighth place finish in last season's South Atlantic Conference standings.
