HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 13 Carson-Newman Lady Eagles fell to a sixth place finish at the Newberry College Invitational, completed Monday at the at the played at par-74 Moss Creek Golf Club.
C-N carded a 347 in the final round to finish the tournament sixth in the 10-team field. The Lady Eagles finished at 687 (+95) in the wet, windy, and cold event.
Senior Erica Ray was Carson-Newman's top finisher. She tied for 21st after an 85 in the final round.
Sophomore Lauren Hodge shot an 85 in the final round to match Ray for team-low honors on Monday.
Sophomore Louise McGillvray tied for 29th, but struggled on Monday with a 92.
Armstrong Atlantic State University won the event at +36, beating out Newberry by 22 strokes.
C-N played the event without sophomore Mary Tunnell, a 2012 NCAA Finalist, who sat out while recovering from an injury.
The Lady Eagles return to action on March 5-6 at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational. The two-day event is at Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, Fla. The practice round is March 4.
