Eagle golfers debut fall 2013 men’s slate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – There's not a lot of variation to Carson-Newman's men's golf's schedule of tournaments for the fall of 2013.  In fact, the Eagles play in the same five tournaments in the same order as they did in 2012.

For familiarity's sake, that's ok with head coach John Minor.

"It's got to be a benefit to play on these courses before," Minor said. "If I do my job, they should be more comfortable playing and that should translate to better scores."

The Eagles open the season by playing host to the second annual Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate at the Sevierville Golf Club.

"It's an awesome opportunity to go back there for a second year, the folks there are very supportive," Minor said. "The guys have been playing this summer quite a bit.  It's an easy course if you hit the fairways and greens, but if you don't it's really quite challenging. It'll test every aspect of your game."

Following the SMI, the Eagles hit the road to Kiawah Island – which played host to the 2012 PGA Championship – for the Kiawah Island Invitational, which USC Aiken.

"Kiawah is great," Minor said. "Especially if mother nature is good to us.  For our first two events, we're really pumped, the field for those tournaments is great and should really test us."

The Eagles close out the fall with trips to the Columbus State Invitational at the Country Club of Columbus, The TVA Credit Union Classic at Turtle Point in Florence, Ala., and the Rollins Invitational at Rio Pinar in Orlando, Fla.
