Mozgai named to the All-Southeast Region Team
Nov. 30, 2008
JEFFERSON CITY - Carson-Newman's Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) was a second-team selection on the 2008 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Team, officials announced earlier this week.
The sophomore outside hitter helped lead the Lady Eagles to a 24-15 record, including the school's first birth in the NCAA Division II Tournament since 2002.
A second team All-SAC selection, Mozgai led the team in kills with 397 and service aces with 48. Her 2.9 kills per game average ranked ninth in the South Atlantic Conference. She also recorded 234 digs and 65 blocks this past season.
Back in August, Mozgai broke the NCAA Division II record for consecutive points served with 17 in a row.
Mozgai tallied double-digit kills 21 times and collected 10 double-doubles during the season. She achieved a .400 or higher hitting percentage 6 times having her personal best against Rollins and Augusta State where she hit .481 and .524 consecutively. She led her team in service aces with 49 and finished 4th on her team with 1.66 digs per set. She collected her personal best double-double in the semi-final match of the conference tournament with 15 kills and 16 digs vs. Lincoln Memorial.
"We had a great season and I am glad to have Carly recognized for her work ethic. She worked hard last spring and into the summer. She is one of those players who asks to stay after practice and perfect aspects of her game. I usually have to ask her to leave. I know she would contribute the work of her entire team for her recognition, as the team aspect is important to her. Although I hate we lost in the regional tournament, this gives our players something to build on and to stay hungry for." Says Head Coach Shannon Mincey
