JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head volleyball coach Shannon Mincey has announced seven volleyball camps and clinics throughout the month of July geared toward players from elementary school through high school.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman volleyball coach Shannon Mincey has announced the hiring of former Eagle middle hittler Sabina Papala as a graduate assistant coach. “I look forward to working alongside Sabina,” Mincey said. “Her personality is enjoyable to work with and she is a hard worker. Her life experience will be an asset to us coming from Poland and playing for so many schools.”

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head volleyball coach Shannon Mincey announced the signing of two players during the early signing period. The Eagles bring 5-9 right-side hitter Jessica Sokol and 5-9 libero Taylor Lowe into the fold for 2013.

Eagle volleyball concludes season with senior day loss to Wingate
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (11-16, 5-13 SAC) won the first set over Wingate (26-2, 16-2 SAC) 25-23, but the Bulldogs stormed back to capture the next three, picking up a four-set victory over the Eagles (23-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-13). Carson-Newman needed a victory over the conference leading Bulldogs to secure a spot in the SAC tournament.

Catawba upends C-N in five-set heartbreaker
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (11-15, 5-12 SAC) and Catawba (13-12, 9-8 SAC) were tied nine times in the fifth set, but a three point service run by the Indians’ Kaitlyn Whitmir broke that ninth tie and propelled Catawba to a 15-13 win in the fifth set and 3-2 win in the match (28-18, 23-25, 15-25, 25-15, 15-13).

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (11-14, 5-11 SAC) found itself down 13-10 in the fifth set against Lincoln Memorial (19-11, 10-5 SAC) Tuesday night at Holt Fieldhouse, but Kiayna O’Neal (Katy, Texas) went on a four-point service run to help propel the to a come-from-behind five-set victory (19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 30-28, 20-18).

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman senior libero Angelle Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.) netted the first SAC player of the week for a C-N volleyball athlete this season. Hayes collected 57 digs across the Eagles three matches, averaging 4.75 digs per set.

HICKORY, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne (17-, 9-6 SAC) used a stingy defense to hold Carson-Newman (10-14, 4-11 SAC) to a .033 attack percentage in a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-22, 25-14) of the Eagles at Shuford Gymnasium. Kiayna O’Neal (Katy, Texas) and Sabina Papala (Laziska Gorne, Poland) each produced a team high nine kills.

Schultz sets new career high as Eagles take down Brevard 3-2
BREVARD, N.C. – Carson-Newman (10-13, 4-10 SAC) got a career high 14 kills from Emily Schultz (Atlanta, Ga.) as the Eagles battled back and forth with Brevard (10-15, 1-13 SAC) to come out on top in five sets (20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 15-13) Thursday night at Boshamer Gym. It’s the second five-set match in a row the Eagles have won after losing their first five, five-setters.

Carson-Newman volleyball digs pink with Tuesday match against rival Tusculum
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (9-12, 3-9 SAC) celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its Dig Pink match Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Holt Fieldhouse versus Tusculum (16-10, 10-4 SAC). The Eagles will wear pink uniforms and proceeds from the night will go toward finding a cure for cancer.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Tusculum Pioneers (17-6, 11-4 SAC) used a balanced attack and a solid back row defense to take out Carson-Newman (10-13, 3-10 SAC) in four sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14) Tuesday night at Holt Fieldhouse. The match was a meeting of the top two liberos in the South Atlantic Conference in Carson-Newman’s Angelle Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Tusculum’s Caitlyn Dean.

Eagle volleyball stops five-match losing streak with five-set victory over Mars Hill
MARS HILL, N.C. – Carson-Newman (9-12, 3-9 SAC) used a balanced attack and solid play from its back line of defenders to stop a five-game losing streak with a five-set (17-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13) victory over Mars Hill (12-10, 5-7 SAC). The win was the first for Carson-Newman in a five-set match in 2012.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Anderson (11-12, 4-9 SAC) used a strong attack to take a three-set (25-20, 25-14, 25-19) victory over Carson-Newman (8-12, 2-9 SAC) Saturday afternoon at Holt Fieldhouse. The Trojans Shannon Gillespie was the only attacker for either team with more than 10 kills, notching 15 for AU. Gillespie finished with a .361 attack percentage.

Eagles drop four-setter to Wingate
WINGATE, N.C. – Carson-Newman (8-10, 2-7) won the first set against Wingate (16-2, 7-2 SAC) but the Bulldogs stormed back behind a furious offensive performance to win 22-25, 31-29, 25-14, 25-17. Four Bulldogs finished with double digit kills, led by Anna Hilton’s 17 to go along with a .471 attack percentage. Wingate hit .307 as a team for the match.

Eagle volleyball finishes six-match road-trip with top-flight SAC competition
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman volleyball (8-8, 2-5 SAC) has gone 3-1 on its current stay away from Holt Fieldhouse. However, the Eagles will need to rebound from a three-set loss to Lincoln Memorial to finish out the trip in style against Catawba (6-9, 3-4 SAC) Friday night and Wingate (14-2, 5-2 SAC) Saturday afternoon.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (6-7, 2-4 SAC) continues its six-game road trip with a homecoming for head coach Shannon Mincey. The Eagles will play two Saturday at Mincey’s alma mater King College. The Eagles take on Erskine (5-7) at 1 p.m. before battling with the Tornado (11-8) at 3 p.m.

Eagles beat Erskine and King in Bristol Saturday
BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (8-7) volleyball team picked up a pair of victories on Saturday, defeating Erskine in three sets (27-25, 25-21, 25-13 and King in four sets (27-29, 25-20, 27-25, 25-23) at the King College Student Center Complex. The victories improve Carson-Newman’s record to 8-7 in the 2012 season, and the Eagles have won their last four matches.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman volleyball (4-7, 2-4 SAC) will look to get back on the winning track when it steps out of conference play for a match against the Lees-McRae Bobcats (7-7, 4-3 Conference Carolinas) Tuesday night at 7 at Holt Fieldhouse. While the Eagles haven’t played Lees-McRae this season, Carson-Newman is still familiar with the Bobcats.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman volleyball (5-7, 2-4 SAC) held the nation’s ninth best serving team to one ace in a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) of Lees-McRae (7-8, 4-3 Conference Carolinas) Tuesday night at Holt Fieldhouse. Sophomore setter Kristen Pickett (Cleveland, Tenn.) dished out 31 helpers, a season high for a three set match.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (4-6, 2-3 SAC) has split the first two games of a four-game home stand and will try to establish a winning streak for the second time this season against a Lenoir-Rhyne club (7-4, 3-1 SAC) that has won back-to-back matches. The Bears enter Holt Fieldhouse for Saturday’s match at 2 p.m. with a sweep of Queens (N.C.) and a four-set win over no. 22 Wingate under their belts.

Haley Rhyne crushed 15 kills, tying C-N’s Laruen Santarelli (Colorado Spring, Colo.) for the match high.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman (4-6, 2-3 SAC) volleyball snapped a two game skid in dominating fashion with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-21) sweep of the Brevard Tornados (7-6, 1-4 SAC). The Eagles held Brevard to a .097 hit percentage while C-N blasted away at a .242 mark.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Tuesday’s matchup between Carson-Newman (3-5, 1-2 SAC) and Mars Hill (7-5, 1-2 SAC) features two of the premier defensive specialists in the South Atlantic Conference. Carson-Newman’s Angelle Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Mars Hill’s Maggie Murphy rank fourth and third in the conference in digs/set with 5.0 and 5.33, respectively. First serve for the match is 7 p.m. at Holt Fieldhouse.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Mars Hill (8-5, 2-2 SAC) had three attackers finish with more than 10 kills in a 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21) win over Carson-Newman (3-6, 1-3 SAC) Tuesday night at Holt Fieldhouse. The Lions Marissa Wixson, Regan Macomson and Toni Cole all finished with more than 12 kills, with Wixson notching a match high 19 kills – 10 of which came in the first set.

GREENVILLE, Tenn. – In a back and forth match, it was Tusculum that used one last shift in momentum to pull out a five-set win over Carson-Newman. Carson-Newman (2-4, 0-1 SAC) had Tusculum (8-2, 3-0 SAC) on the ropes in the fifth set 9-6, but the Pioneers pulled off a comeback, scoring the next five points secure a match victory (19-25, 25-16, 27-29, 25-21, 15-11).

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (2-3) volleyball saw four attackers average more than 2.75 k/s in a sweep of the Montevallo Falcons (6-6). Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Lauren Santarelli (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Rachael Bowlin (Morristown, Tenn.) all finished with more than 10 kills for the match while Ashley Ferris (Knoxville, Tenn.) followed shortly behind with 8.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman volleyball's libero Angelle Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.) picked up the first honor of her senior season by making the Carson-Newman Classic all-tournament team. Hayes had 4.7 digs/set for the tournament. The 5-5 senior had 26 digs against a powerful Armstrong Atlantic attack.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (0-2) volleyball team fell in five sets against Armstrong Atlantic (6-0) at Holt Fieldhouse in the Carson-Newman Classic on Saturday morning. The two teams split the first four sets: 15-25, 26-24, 10-25, and 25-15 before Armstrong won the decisive fifth set 15-7.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman volleyball team dropped a five-set match (22-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-21, 15-11) to the Peach Belt Conference’s Francis Marion Patriots Friday afternoon in the second match of the Carson-Newman Classic. The Eagles notched 13 kills from sophomore outside hitter Lauren Santarelli (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
