April 7, 2009
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Carson-Newman junior Elizabeth Sneed, of Kingsport, Tenn., has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending April 6. Sneed helped the Eagles to four wins last week, including league wins over Mars Hill, Lincoln Memorial and Newberry.
Sneed posted a perfect 6-0 mark on the week, going 3-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-0 at No. 2 doubles. The former Dobyns-Bennett High School standout claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lincoln Memorial's Ann-Sophie Inderherberger in the Eagles' 8-1 win and did not drop a game in Carson-Newman's 9-0 win over Newberry. Sneed dropped just one game in the 8-1 over North Georgia.
The junior teamed with Cassie Moulton to win three doubles matches. The duo won 8-0 against Lincoln Memorial and Newberry and took an 8-5 win over Mars Hill in a 5-1 victory. Sneed's singles match against Mars Hill was not played due to weather.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the league's Sports Information Directors.
