Lady Eagles’ Shoemake, Shealy named to SAC All-Tournament Team
FOREST CITY, N.C. – Carson-Newman pitcher Mary Shealy had three pitching victories and belted three home runs to join teammate Bri Shoemake on the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball All-Tournament Team.
The pair led C-N to a 3-2 record and a third-place finish in the tournament. C-N rallied from an opening-round loss to win three-straight games over Mars Hill, Catawba, and Tusculum in the loser's bracket.
Shealy led the tournament with three home runs. She hit two home runs and had six RBIs in a 10-4 C-N win over Mars Hill. She added a solo home run in a 9-1 win over Tusculum. For the tournament, the nation's pitching wins leaders was 3-2 with a 2.47 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
Shoemake was among the tournament's leaders in batting average. She hit .467 with two doubles and seven RBIs. Her bases loaded double against Tusculum broke open a 1-1 game as the Lady Eagles eliminated Tusculum, 9-1. She was 7-for-15 in the tournament.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears won the tournament in four straight games.
