No. 10 Carson-Newman Womens Soccer Remains Second In The NCAA Division II Southeast Region Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 10 Carson-Newman
College Women’s Soccer Team (12-2-1, 4-1-1 SAC) remains
second in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Rankings for a
second straight week, NCAA officials announced Wednesday. These
rankings, calculated by a mathematical formula, are the official
determinant for postseason play at the Division II level.
The Lady Eagles posted a 1-1 record last week, falling to 2008 NAIA
national champion Lee University, 4-1, on Tuesday, before defeating
Wingate in South Atlantic Conference action, 2-0, Saturday
evening.
Columbus State University of the Peach Belt Conference is first for
the second straight week and remains the highest-ranked team
nationally from the Southeast Region as well (tied-3rd).
Fellow SAC school Tusculum College (21st nationally) moves to third
in the region while Armstrong Atlantic State University falls to
fourth. Newberry College and Catawba College round out the top
six.
Seven through ten this week are Lander University, Wingate
University, UNC Pembroke and North Georgia College & State
University.
The conference tournament champion from the SAC, Peach Belt and
Conference Carolinas will each be awarded automatic bids to the
2009 NCAA Division II Tournament while the three remaining
highest-ranked teams will receive at-large bids to the postseason.
