No. 8 Carson Newman Women's Soccer Stays Perfect With A 2-0 Victory Over West Georgia Sunday
Carrollton, Ga. - Freshman Andrea Saevik (Bolandet, NORWAY)
assisted on both Carson-Newman College goals Sunday afternoon as
the No. 8 Lady Eagles remained perfect in the 2009 campaign with a
2-0 victory over the University of West Georgia (2-6-0). C-N moves
to 8-0-0 on the season just 48 hours after picking up its 200th win
in program history.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Trenna Howell (Oak
Ridge, Tenn.) received a pass from Saevik that she shot past the
keeper to put the Lady Eagles up 1-0 with just 27:53 remaining in
the contest that would prove to be the match-winner. Howell has
scored the deciding goal for C-N in three straight matches.
Carson-Newman added an insurance goal in the 88th minute as
sophomore Maggie Alexander (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) took Saevik's cross
and found the back of the net. The goal was Alexander's first goal
of the season.
Senior Shannon Clancy (Toronto, Ontario, CANADA) picked up the win
in goal as she stopped two West Georgia shots in 45:00 minutes of
play. Sophomore Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario, CANADA) tallied
four saves of her own in the second half for the Lady Eagles.
West Georgia goalkeeper Patricia Logsdon (Marietta, Ga.) recorded
a match-high nine saves but allowed two goals over the course of
the 90:00 minute match.
Carson-Newman will have five days off before returning to the
pitch on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m., when the Lady Eagles will
host the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University in South Atlantic
Conference action.
