Lady Eagles take fifth at Wingate’s Hargett Invitational

CHARLOTTE – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles closed with a final round 329 to finish in fifth place at Wingate University's Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday afternoon at the 5,800-yard Olde Sycamore Country Club.

C-N finished fourth, two strokes back of Tusculum College, after dropping 10 shots from its opening round pace of 319. C-N finished 23 strokes back of champion Barry University and nine strokes behind second place Columbus State (Ga.).

The Lady Eagles finished second among seven South Atlantic Conference teams in the field.

Junior Melanie Manis finished 10^th after an 81 in the final round and a two-day 157 as C-N's top finisher.

Senior Jennifer Oliver tied for 14^th with an 80 on Tuesday. She finished at 159 for the tournament.

Sophomore Louise McGillvray climbed to 29^th after shooting an 82 in the final round, while senior Erica Ray tied for 48^th following a 86 on Tuesday.

Sophomore Lauren Hodge shot an 89 in the final round to fall to 52^nd after an 81 in the opening round had her near the Top 30.

Sophomore Mary Tunnell finished in a tie for 46^th after an 85 in the final round. The tournament was her first of the spring after reaching the NCAA Championships as a freshman.

UNC Pembroke's Megan Moore took medalist honors with a pair of 76s and a 152 tournament total. She finished five strokes ahead of Manis and seven ahead of Oliver.

Carson-Newman returns to action next Monday and Tuesday at the 2012 Agnes McAmis Memorial in Greeneville, Tenn. The 36-hole event will be held at Links Hill Country Club.
