Lady Eagles finish second at Flagler Fall Slam; Ray, McGillivray share third

SAINT AUGUSTINE'S, Fla. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles shot a tournament-low 300 (+12) in the final round to finish second, two strokes back, at the Flagler Fall Slam, which wrapped up Tuesday afternoon at the Marsh Creek Country Club.

The Lady Eagles bested their opening round score by 19 strokes with a 300 on Tuesday, finishing two shots behind tournament champion and national Top 5, Lynn University.

The round was seven shots better than any other team score by the field. Lynn shot 308-309 (617) to win the 20-team event by two strokes.

Senior Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) and sophomore Louise McGillivray (Banchory, Scotland) carried thee Lady Eagles. The duo tied for third, two strokes back.

Ray shot a 77 in Tuesday's final round to finish with a two-day 151 (+7). McGillvray shot a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to climb into the Top 5.

Lynn's Jessica Smolen won the tournament at 149 (+5). Her teammate Jessica Bradley took second at 150 (+6).

Barry University (624) took third, five strokes back of the Lady Eagles and seven behind Lynn. USC Beaufort (631) and Flagler (633) round out the tournament's top five.

South Atlantic Conference foe Tusculum finish seventh at 636 and was the only other SAC school among five in the Top 10.

Senior Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished 24^th, bouncing back from a slow start Monday with a 75 (+3) in the final round. She finish at 161 (+17) for the tournament and moved up 38 spots.

Sophomore Mary Tunnell (Memphis, Tenn.) also rallied from a tough round on Monday, firing a 74 (+2) in the final round. She finished in 35th at 162 (+19), 39 places higher than she started the round.

Junior Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) slipped to an 88 in her final round to finish tied for 65^th at (170) +26 for the event.

The Lady Eagles return to action in the spring as they try to defend their South Atlantic Conference title.
