Tunnell finishes tied for 27th at NCAA Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Carson-Newman freshman Mary Tunnell (Memphis, Tenn.) carded a final-round 78 (+6) on Saturday at The Meadows to finish the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships in a tie for 27th place.

Tunnell, who is the first Lady Eagle in program history to play in the NCAA Championships, finished with a four-day total of 308 (+20). She got off to a strong start on Saturday as she birdied the first and fifth holes and had a bogey on No. 9 to make the turn at 1-under-par. However, she struggled on the back nine with five bogeys and a double bogey.

Nova Southeastern's Taylor Collins won the national title with a four-day score of 278 (-10). Collins finished ahead of teammate Sandra Changkija, who had a four-round total of 286 (-2).

Nova Southeastern ran away with its third straight national title with a score of 1,157 (+5). Rollins College was runner-up with a score of 1,185 (+33), while Florida Southern claimed third place with a score of 1,196 (+44).
