Sunset Beach, N.C. – Tarleton State leads with a team 306 (+18)after the first day Monday of the 2010 Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Golf Intercollegiate at the Sea Trail Golf Resort. The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles are tied for seventh after a team 336 (+48) in the opening round.
Senior Jessica Tarbet (Corryton, Tenn.) led the Lady Eagles with an opening round 80, including a 39 on the front nine, to close the first round in a tie for 10th. Junior Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished with an 81, and is tied for 16th.
Junior Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) carded an 85 and is 36th after 18 holes, while freshman Mary Tunnell (Germantown, Tenn.) and junior Heather Houser (Kingsport, Tenn.) each turned in a 90 in their opening round.
The Lady Eagles are tied with Wingate University for seventh in a South Atlantic Conference-heavy field, which includes seven SAC squads in spots 3-10 after the first day. C-N is 12 strokes back of Lincoln Memorial, who sits in third.
Tarleton State (Texas) completed the first day with a 306 (+18)
on the par-72, 5,988-yard course and lead by 10 shots over UNC
Pembroke. Tarleton State also has the top individual so far
as Carla Cooper was the lone player to shoot under par with a 71
(-1).
The final round takes place on Tuesday.
