Roger Hoover named Assistant Director of Athletic Communications
Jefferson City, Tenn. – Carson-Newman athletic director Allen Morgan has hired Roger Hoover to be the school's Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and the play-by-play voice of the Lady Eagles basketball team.
"Roger is a tremendous announcer," Morgan said. "His capabilities on the microphone impressed me from the start, but the fact that he's a person of principle is what makes him our next great Eagle."
Hoover is an accomplished baseball broadcaster with five years of experience in the minor league circuit. He currently is the Senior Broadcasting Assistant for the Tennessee Smokies, but also has stops with the AA Jacksonville Suns and the Kingsport Mets.
"I am very excited to join the Carson-Newman family," Hoover said. "Allen Morgan is putting together a first-class staff at all levels of the athletic department and is committed to excellence. I am also looking forward to working with (Director of Athletic Communications) Adam Cavalier to consistently deliver the best coverage of C-N athletics to Eagle fans."
A University of Tennessee graduate, Hoover also has provided color commentary for UT baseball on the Vol Network while also acting as the voice of D-III Maryville College football as well as men's and women's basketball.
"Roger is a five-tool broadcaster," Director of Athletic Communications Adam Cavalier said. "I'm proud to welcome him into the fold because of his capabilities not just as a play-by-play announcer, but also as someone who has a wealth of experience with the Web, video, social media and writing."
A native of Kingsport, Tenn., Hoover began his career in 2006 with the Vol Network.
"I've had the opportunity to watch Roger grow as a sportscaster through social media channels over the years," Cavalier said. "His willingness to improve and be the best is what makes him a good fit for this team."
Hoover begins work July 30.
