C-N’s Holdway named SAC Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman's Derek Holdway has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Players of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Holdway was a key contributor to Carson-Newman's perfect 2-0 start in conference play this week, finishing undefeated in both singles and doubles play. The junior, alongside freshman Austin McKay, captured all three doubles matches, including an 8-1 win over Brevard and an 8-2 victory against Newberry.

In singles, Holdway earned three straight-set victories on the week, highlighted by a 6-4, 6-4 win over Newberry's Mohammed Chakir which tied the match at 3-3. The Eagles eventually won the match, 5-4.

C-N is off to a 6-2 start overall.

Wingate's Olivia Poole earned the honor on the women's side.  

C-N hosts Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
