Blue beats Orange as C-N wraps up 2012 season

The 2011-2012 tennis season came to a close today with the annual Orange and Blue tennis match. The Blue team outlasted the Orange team with a 56-48 victory. The format of the match consists of four rounds. Each round has a men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and a mixed doubles match. The final score reflects the total number of games won by each team over the four rounds.

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Carson-Newman Eagles picked up their lone point at No. 3 doubles in an 8-1 loss at North Georgia on Tuesday. Garrett Duron and Dalton Moore combined for a 9-8 win as the Eagles trailed by a lone point through doubles, 2-1.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Tusculum Pioneers took a pair of 8-4 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and squeaked by with a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles to grab an early 3-0 lead and hold the Eagles in singles in a 6-3 win on Wednesday afternoon at the C-N Tennis Complex. Carson-Newman falls to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in South Atlantic Conference play. Tusculum improves to 7-5 and 1-0 in SAC play.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman’s Derek Holdway has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Tennis Players of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Holdway was a key contributor to Carson-Newman’s perfect 2-0 start in conference play this week, finishing undefeated in both singles and doubles play. The junior, alongside freshman Austin McKay, captured all three doubles matches, including an 8-1 win over Brevard and an 8-2 victory against Newberry.

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles rallied from behind at No. 4 and No. 6 singles to capture a 5-4 win at Newberry College on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. C-N’s second SAC win doubles their win total from a season ago and has them atop the SAC standings early in the season.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Eagles started off strong by taking two of the three doubles matches and then added three singles matches to defeat Bellarmine by a score of 5-4. The #2 team of Dusty Davis (senior, Morristown, TN)/Derek Holdway (junior, Woodstock, GA) and the #3 team of Austin Mackay (freshman, Oak Ridge, TN)/Eric Mueller (freshman, Collierville, TN) won doubles matches for the Eagles.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. The Carson-Newman Eagles open their 2012 season on Friday afternoon when they host The University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). The match begins at 2 p.m. at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex. It is the first of four home matches in a nine-day stretch for the Eagles. C-N will also host Lee University on Saturday at 1 p.m.

ROCK HILL, S.C. –The Carson-Newman Eagles have been picked to finish ninth in the 2012 Men's Tennis South Atlantic Conference Preseason Poll, the league announced on Wednesday. Carson-Newman received 26 points in the poll in a vote by the league coaches.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Eagles and Lady Eagles participated in the ETSU Fall Invitational Tennis Tournament on September 9-10. 2011. A total of 224 men and women representing seven schools saw action in the tournament, which included 6 flights of singles and 3 flights of doubles for men and women. Highlights of the tournament for Carson-Newman included two flight winners and three flight finalists.
