Hay takes 11th, Eagles finish 15th at Super Regional

CONOVER, N.C. – Carson-Newman's Gavin Hay fired a 3-under 69 in the final round to finish 11^th and the Eagles combined for their best round of the tournament to take 15^th at the 2012 South/Southeast Super Regional, which wrapped up Wednesday in Hickory, N.C.

The Eagles posted a total of 292 (+4) for their best round of the tournament and to climb into the midst of a tight middle of the field. C-N finished eight strokes and eight spots behind Georgia Southwestern.

Hay, who tied for 11^th, led the Eagles on the final day with seven birdies in one of the best rounds by any player at the event. He opened his round on the back nine, wrapping four birdies around a double bogey on the 14^th. He played 12 holes in the middle of his round at 5-under par before bogeying his final hole of the tournament.

Sophomore Jonathan Kim-Moss closed his tournament in 32^nd after a 73 on Wednesday. After nine pars on his opening nine, Kim-Moss had a pair of birdies on the sixth and ninth holes, along with a double bogey on the seventh hole to close with a total of 222.

Senior Liam Ashby wrapped up his outstanding career be finishing 63^rd. The SAC Golfer of the Year finished with a pair of 74s and had two birdies in his final collegiate round.

Sophomore Michael Horenkamp tied for 58^th with one of his more solid tournament of the season. He shot a 76 Wednesday after two 75s to open the tournament to finish at +10.

Senior Alex Coughlin also shot a 76 in his final round after a frustrating start to the event.

Georgia College and State won the event with a 54-hole total of 869 (+5). The Bobcats advance to next week's NCAA Championships along with Barry University, Nova Southeastern, UNC Pembroke, and USC Aiken. Nova, the nation's N0. 1 team, was 10-under as a team in its final round to rally for a spot in Louisville, Ky. next week.
