Eagles finish fourth at Bearcat Invitational
GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles closed the 2012 Lander Bearcat Invitational with a team 301 (+13) in the final round to finish fourth at the tournament, which wrapped up Tuesday at the par-72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club.
Junior Gavin Hay grabbed a Top 5 finish with a 76 in the final round to finish the 54-hole tournament at 2-under par with a 214 total. He finished five strokes off the pace.
Senior Liam Ashby bounced back from a rough opening round to play his final 36 holes at 5-under par. He finished 13th with a 71 on Tuesday.
Senior Alex Coughlin climbed to 51st with two solid rounds to close the tournament. He fired a 75 in the final round.
C-N's Jonathan Kim-Moss slipped to a tie for 56th with an 80 on Tuesday, while junior Michael Horenkamp also finished 56th after a 79 to close out the tournament.
The Eagles finished two strokes behind Columbus State (Ga.) for third and two strokes ahead of South Atlantic Conference rival Newberry College in the 17-team field.
The No. 15-ranked USC Aiken men's golf team shot an 8-under-par 856 to claim the team title.
Flagler College's Joel Dahlenburg won the individual title after shooting a 7-under-par 209 (66-67-76). Belmont Abbey's Adam Hedges (73-67-72) and Newberry's Jon Weiss (70-71-71) tied for second overall with 212.

Queens and Coker 894, 10. Erskine 896, 11. Armstrong Atlantic and Belmont Abbey 897, 13. Montevallo 909, 14. Clayton State 917, 15. Mount Olive 919, 16. North Georgia 926, and 17. Lander 935.
Carson-Newman now has a three-week break before the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships in Conover, N.C. The 54-hole tournament begins April 15 at Rock Barn Golf and Country Club.
