PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The No. 16 Carson-Newman Eagles beat Lincoln Memorial and Flagler in a two-hole playoff to win the 2012 Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla. The 36-hole event wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon at the 6,900-yard Hombre Golf Club.

The Eagles, playing in a playoff five-some, tied Flagler and beat LMU on the first playoff hole, playing the par five at 2-under. They won the tournament on the second playoff hole as Jonathan Kim-Moss sank an eight-foot birdie putt to win it.

Senior Alex Coughlin and sophomore Michael Horenkamp birdied the first hole to extend the playoff, and Kim-Moss birdied the second extra hole for the win.

Senior Liam Ashby was the Eagles' top finisher at 148 (+4) for the tournament. Ashby finished fourth in the tournament at 4-over par. His 73 in the final round tied for the second lowest round of the day.

The Eagles held a four-stroke lead after the opening round with the lowest single round total of the tournament at 292 on Monday, building a big, early lead on the 16-team field.

Carson-Newman struggled in the final round, but persevered in the playoff to win. C-N made its opening round edge stand up, following rounds of even-par (72) from Kim-Moss and junior Gavin Hay, and a 73 (+1) from Coughlin on Monday.

Carson-Newman’s 36-hole 601 tied LMU and Flager after 36 holes. Itwas a stroke better than Columbus State’s 302.

Four Eagles finished in the Top 15. Hay took 10th at 150, while Kim-Moss finished 12th and Coughlin 15th to stack the top of the leaderboard.

The win is the second for the Eagles in their last three tournaments.

C-N also won the Will Wilson Invitational in October. It finished second at the 2011 Rollins Invitational in between the two wins.

LMU’s Eric Kennedy took medalist honors in a one-hole playoff with King’s Adrian Kibsey. Kennedy eagled the first playoff hole for the win.

The Eagles return to action on March 5-6 in Salisbury, N.C. at the Richard Rendleman Invitational.
