JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles have added a Sept. 8 meeting with Fayetteville State University to their 2011 football schedule, head coach ken Sparks announced Tuesday. The Eagles will host FSU in a Thursday night affair at Burke-Tarr Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The game will be C-N’s home opener, which was originally schedule for Sept. 24 against Newberry.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman College football held its final full-contact scrimmage Tuesday night with the annual Orange and Blue game at Burke-Tarr Stadium. In game full of big plays by the offense and defense, the Orange team took the victory, winning 19-13. The spring game was moved up a day to Tuesday due to the encroaching weather, but the rain still caught the Eagles by kick off.

Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. in Burke-Tarr Stadium. Admission is free and the game is open to the public. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, but has been moved due to heavy rains in the forecast.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman College football held its final full-contact scrimmage Saturday morning, with multiple big plays on offense and defense on display. The practice was good preparation for the annual Orange and Blue game, scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — After two days of work in only shorts and helmets, the Carson-Newman football team will finally see their first live action since its 49-48 win over Tusculum College on Nov. 13. It will be one of only three full pad, full contact practices for the Eagles. Per NCAA rules, Carson-Newman can only hold 15 practices over the next few weeks, with only so many slotted for scrimmages and full pads. Carson-Newman's first scrimmage will be Thursday.
Information is now available on the 2011 Carson-Newman football coaching clinic. The clinic will be held on Feb. 25-27 at the Music Road Hotel in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
KINGSVILLE, Tex. - Carson-Newman punter Chris Jones (Rome, Ga.), safety Mario Russell (Columbus Ohio), and offensive tackle Michael Tribue (Antioch, Tenn.) all participated in Friday night's 2010 Cactus Bowl, a Division II all-star game. Jones and Tribue played on the Blue Devils all-star squad, which lost to the Red Storm, 28-6. Russell playde in the secondary for the Red Storm.
BROOKINGS, S.D. - Carson-Newman offensive tackle Michael Tribue (Antioch, Tenn.) has been named to the 2010 Daktronics First Team All-American Team. Tribue earns the honor for the second consecutive season.
FLORENCE, Ala. — Carson-Newman head football coach Ken Sparks was one of three legendary Division II head coaches inducted into the Division II College Football Hall of Fame on Friday night during the Harlon Hill Trophy and Division II Hall of Fame Banquet at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center in Florence, Ala.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Nine Carson-Newman Eagles have been named to the 2010 All-South Atlantic Conference football teams, which the league announced earlier today. Defensive back Mario Russell (Columbus, Ohio) was named to the first team for the third year in a row. He is joined by offensive lineman Michael Tribue (Antioch, Tenn.), last year’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner, punter Chris Jones (Rome, Ga.) and defensive lineman Zeke Andrews (Eastman, Ga.).
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Quarterback Doug Belk rushed for 208 yards and scored the game-winning two-point conversion with 35.4 seconds remaining as Carson-Newman edged Tusculum 49-48 in one of the most exciting games in the storied history between the East Tennessee rivals. The Pioneers (6-5, 2-5 SAC) had an opportunity to win on the final play of the game, but senior kicker Gareth Rowlands’ 53-yard field goal hit the left upright as time expired.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — After last week’s disappointing loss to Lenoir-Rhyne, the Carson-Newman football team will attempt to close out its season on a positive note on Saturday against South Atlantic Conference rival Tusculum.
