Eagles Jump to 14th in AFCA Poll, Remain No. 2 in Regional Rankings
WACO, Tex. – The Carson-Newman Eagles jumped four spots to
No. 14 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association
Poll, released Monday afternoon.
The Eagles (8-2, 6-0 SAC) beat Wingate on Saturday, 45-7, to claim
their 21st South Atlantic Conference title and win their
eighth-straight game.
C-N has faced two teams in the AFCA Top 25, beating No. 10 UNC
Pembroke, 35-22, and falling at No. 1 North Alabama, 31-14. Both
games were in September.
C-N is the lone SAC school in the poll.
The Eagles remained No. 2 in the NCAA Super Regional Two Poll, also
released Monday. They remain behind top-ranked North Alabama.
Albany State (Ga.) is third in the poll, and UNC Pembroke is
fourth.
The top six teams in the final regional poll will participate in
the NCAA Division II Playoffs which begin Nov. 14. The top two
teams in the final poll receive a first-round bye.
Carson-Newman hosts Tusculum on Saturday in the regular-season
finale for both schools. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Burke-Tarr
Stadium.
