JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman’s Antoine Davis (Rustburg, Va.) has become the school’s first men’s basketball All-American in a decade. Davis has been named to the Division II Bulletin’s Honorable Mention All-America team making him the Eagles’ first such honoree since Kyle Gribble in 2002-2003.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Carson-Newman forward Antoine Davis (Rustburg, Va.) has been lauded as a first team Daktronics’ All-Southeast Region selection. Davis the lone junior on a first team filled with seniors and is the only player from the South Atlantic Conference named to either the first or second teams.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Antoine Davis (Rustburg, Va.) with his 17 points as the Eagles have won two straight against the rival Pioneers. Davis was joined in double figures by Ish Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.), with his 16 points and Cody Henegar (South Pittsburg, Tenn.) added 11 points and two three-pointers for Carson-Newman.

Eagles secure first 4-0 start since 1998 with 93-60 win over Hiwassee
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (4-0) started slow, trailing Hiwassee (2-7) by as many as five in the first half. But the Eagles ripped out the gates in the second stanza, going on a 17-4 lead to take a double digit lead C-N would not relinquish in a 93-60 victory in the Eagles’ home opener at Holt Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

Davis takes home SAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman men’s basketball player Antoine Davis (Rustburg, Va.) picked up SAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after averaging 19.7 points and 7.3 rebounds as the Eagles started the year 3-0. The player of the week nod is the first for a C-N men’s basketball player since Ish Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.) won the award Dec. 12, 2011.

Eagles use hot start to blow by Bulldogs 103-73
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – For the second night in a row, Carson-Newman’s men’s basketball team used a monster early first half run to take down an opponent at the Pioneer Classic at Tusculum’s Pioneer Arena. On Friday night, the Eagles (3-0) used a 24-2 run to propel themselves to a win over Columbus State. Saturday night, it was a 20-2 run that helped Carson-Newman to a 103-73 victory over Knoxville College (0-5).

Five double-figure scorers send Eagles scooting past CSU 84-60
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (2-0) found itself down in a 5-0 hole to start Friday evening’s game at the Pioneer Classic against Columbus State (2-1), but the Eagles scored 24 of the next 26 points and never looked back in a 84-60 non-conference, neutral site victory over the Cougars at Pioneer Arena.

Benson’s bunch battles Bobcats in regular season opener
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman’s men’s basketball team opens up the regular season of its 2012-2013 campaign by making the journey to Banner Elk, N.C., to square off with the Lees-McRae Bobcats (0-1). Carson-Newman is coming off a pair of close exhibition losses to Division I competition. The Eagles fell to ETSU 71-65 and Appalachian State 62-59. Neither contest was decided until the final minute.

Second half surge brings Eagles back for 68-62 season-opening win over Lees-McRae for 1,000th victory in program history
BANNER ELK, N.C. – After trailing by as many as 17 in the second half, Carson-Newman (1-0, 0-0 SAC) used a 12-0 run capped by a Marcellous Perez (Jacksonville, N.C.) triple to storm back and capture an opening day road victory over Lees-McRae (0-2) at Williams Gymnasium. The win is the 1,000th in Carson-Newman men’s basketball history.

Carson-Newman takes Appalachian State to wire, falls in final minute
BOONE, N.C. – Carson-Newman led the Appalachian State Mountaineers for the first 28 minutes of the Eagles exhibition contest at the Holmes Center, but a 9-3 Mountaineer run in the second half helped propel ASU to a 62-59 victory over Carson-Newman. Carson-Newman had chances to take the lead and tie with a three on two occasions in the final 60 seconds, but Jay Canty intercepted a pass to thwart one final Eagle heave.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman’s men’s basketball team makes its 2012-13 debut in nearby Johnson City, Tenn., with an exhibition contest against East Tennessee State University. The Eagles return all five starters from 2011-12’s 15-14 team, including a pair of preseason All-SAC first teamers in Antoine Davis (Rustburg, Va.) and Ish Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.). Both players scored 487 points last season.

Eagles push Bucs to the limit in 71-63 loss
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles men’s basketball team pushed the East Tennessee State Buccaneers to the limit in a 71-63 exhibition loss at the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center on Saturday evening. The Eagles, who trailed by as much as 18 points in the second half, rallied back to trail 65-63 with 38 seconds remaining in the contest before the Bucs finished the contest with a six-point run to win by eight.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman’s men’s basketball team has been slated for a fourth place finish in the league in the preseason coach’s poll. The Eagles garnered 57 points, including one first place vote. Wingate was picked to win the league with 77 points and five first place votes.
